Hey, all!  Time for one last Christmas card  before the end of the year.  Yes, you guessed it, this sweet image is by none other than Mo Manning for Penny Black.  I can't seem to get enough of her amazing images these days and out of all of the ones I've colored lately, this one, by far was the most fun.  This is Christmas Fairy Holly and she is also available in Mo's online shop at Mo's Digital Pencil.

This image is super large and really takes up a lot of real estate on the front of a card, but that's okay.  There's no real need for much else.  I again used that pop of purple around the image, a technique that I stole...err...umm..borrowed from my mom.  It really makes that white skirt stand out and I love that!  In addition to the purple halo, I've shaded around the image in light cool gray tones as a finishing touch.  This gives the image a bit more depth and really causes the image to stand out from the background.  I'm almost having more fun playing with the backgrounds as I am coloring the main images ;)

Okay, that's probably it for a few days.  If I don't pop back in with something new, I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas!  I hope you bask in the love of friends and family and really enjoy the spirit of the season.  I cherish each and every one of you :)

Ragged Santa

Copic colors used:  skin- E00, E000, R20, BV00 beard- C3, C1, C00, 0  white trim on suit- B000, B0000 reds- R59, R29, R22  greens- G28, G24, G21  gold accents- Y28, Y26, Y21, Y00 black boots- C7, C5, C3, C1 ground- C5, C3, C1, C00 halo background- BV02, BV000, BV0000, V0000 dots- BV02, BV000, BV0000, V0000 gray shadow around image- C3, C1

Hey, all!  Welcome back!  I hope you had a great weekend and that your Christmas chores are all behind you :)  Not for me, however.  I still need to put up the tree, decorate the house, buy gifts, wrap them...sheesh!  There is just not enough hours in the day!  How do I go about getting Santa to send me some of those elves?  LOL!

Anyway, I'm still having fun with those images created by Mo Manning for Penny Black.  This one is called Ragged Santa and he is also available in Mo's shop, Mo's Digital Pencil.  I keep forgetting to log my Copic Colors, but I managed to jot these down.  I've been adding some purple halo and dot effects around my images lately, particularly the ones featuring some white.  The purple really makes the white pop.  I picked this little trick up from my insanely talented mother, who gave me a holiday card over Thanksgiving that featured a snowman.  She shaded him with light shades of purple rather than the usual grays or blues.  I totally fell in love with this idea!  Let's hear it for mom :D

I'm going to keep this post short and I will catch you tomorrow with one more Christmas card :)  Until then, stay crafty!

Another Penny Black Christmas Card

Hey, all!  I'm back...again!  I have posted a record number of cards this week and it's not even a release week at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps...LOL!  I should get a cookie!  Maybe a pat on the back?  Awe, come on!  Throw me a bone here, people ;D

Today I'm sharing another card using a couple of mages by Mo Manning for Penny Black.  You can also find each of these on Mo's site at Mo's Digital Pencil, one is called Winter Window and the other is Christmas Lamp Post.  I had such a great time coloring these and used the colored photos on the packaging as my guide.  Again, I kept the embellishments simple and let the images be the star of the show.  I can't tell you how much fun I've had playing with these images this week.  AND that's not all...I've still got more cards to share :D

Pop back in tomorrow and I'll have another card to show you!  Until then, stay crafty!

A new challenge at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps: Keep cozy!

Hey, all!  I'm back today to share the new challenge at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps!  This one is brought to you by the incomparable Elaine Hughes!  She has tasked us with creating a "cozy" card by using a warm theme or color scheme.  I opted for a bit of the latter.

I used Lexi from the Off We Go set by Cheryl Alger.  Isn't Lexi adorable toting her bag and travel companion along?  She makes me smile :)  I'm thinking she's headed off somewhere warm and sunny with the family.  Speaking of warm and sunny, that's exactly what Albuquerque is NOT, right now.  It was cold and rainy yesterday and calling for snow today...WHAH???!!!  I just don't have the stomach (or the wardrobe) for cold weather.  I know for most of you, our weather is very mild, but I have slowly turned into a weeny over the years and any little chill sends me shivering now.  I am actually praying for the sweet embrace of a hot flash to envelope me and sear this chill off.  Sad, huh?

I digress...back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Don't forget... our DECEMBER Gimme Kimmies Kits are now available, so grab the new stamps at a discount now!! You can buy them all individually as well! Don't forget our Twelve Krafty Days of Khristmas celebration that is going on now with posts every day leading up to Christmas! Be sure to leave comments on each post for a chance to WIN and every day has special stamps ON SALE 25-50% OFF for that day ONLY! Don't miss your favourites!

Guess what?  I'll be back tomorrow with something new!  Until then, stay krafty!

A Penny Black Christmas Card

Hey, bloggers!  I'm back today with a Christmas Card.  This adorable image is by artist Mo Manning for Penny Black.  I used the cling version from PB, but Mo has this image on her digi website, Mo's Digital Pencil,  available for purchase here.  It's called Hanging the Stockings and is just plain ol' fun to color.  I'll be coloring up more of Mo's fabulous images over the next few days so pop back in from time to time.

Catch ya next time!  Until then, stay crafty!

Happy Hanukkah!

Copic colors used:  blue greens (BG49, BG13, BG10), yellow greens (YG17, YG13, YG01), golds (Y28, Y26, Y21, Y000), doves (C3, C1, 0)

Hey, all!  I'm back with a non design team post for a change ;)

A good friend of mine requested a few custom holiday cards back in September including a Hanukkah card.  She gave me plenty of time to get my stamping ducks in a row and complete this project, however, I waited until 2-weeks ago to start.  The "Cheryl" timeline is ALWAYS askew and grossly underestimated.  I never allow for any sort of snags and, of course, they always present themselves at the last moment.  Such was the case with this particular card.

I knew for certain that I had a Happy Hanukkah stamp I had purchased years ago, but when it came time to dig it out, I couldn't find it!  No way!  This is not happening!  I finally gave up trying to locate it and resorted to shopping at the local stamp stores to see what they had available, which was a big fat nothing :(  I was frazzled and thought for sure I was going to have to throw in the towel on this card.  I made one last attempt to find it, pulling out every holiday stamp I've ever purchased, and placing them in piles all over the floor of my craft space.  Not a pretty sight, but lo and behold, I found it!  Way down in the bottom of a neglected box of stamps, there it sat...brand spanking new and waiting for some ink :)

What a relief!  And such a great stamp, too!  It is a very large design by Outlines, but the letters are nice and open, perfect for coloring.  I checked their site and I don't think it's even available anymore, which is all the more reason why I'm happy I found it.

As I mentioned, this is a very large image, so there was no need for a lot of unnecessary embellishments.  Heck, not only was there no need for them, there was no ROOM for them!  Anyway, I had a good time coloring this one up.  It seems a bit non-traditional, but I'm hoping that my friend likes it :)

I have lots more cards to share over the next few days, so please pop back in for a visit :D  Stay crafty!

My Next Class at China Phoenix 2!

Hey, all!  Welcome back!  Today I want to share one of two cards I will be teaching at China Phoenix 2 on December 15th at 1:00pm.  Both cards will feature lots of Tim Holtz dies, tools, and techniques, which I just LOVE!

Do you ever start to pile stuff onto a card and find you can't help but keep adding more.  Yes, I've heard the adage "Less is more", but apparently I have no concept of what that means.  Especially where this card is concerned, LOL!

I started by creating a fun splashy background using Distress Inks in last seasons winter colors...Iced Spruce, Evergreen Bough, and Fired Brick.  Oops, I should have used Festive Berries to make the trio complete, but Fired Brick is my absolute favorite red in the Distress line.  I swiped these colors onto a craft sheet and misted generously with water to form little droplets of diluted ink, then I laid my white paper panel down and gave it a gentle twist or two before I pulled it off the sheet.  Not too much though, as I didn't want to muddy the colors.  I went back in and dabbed up the remaining droplets so that I had lots of inky splatters on my panel.  A blast with a heat gun to set it and then I was ready to add more color.  I used the Evergreen Bough reinker and just swiped the dropper across the sheet in a swirly pattern.  I didn't even squeeze any additional color out of the dropper, more or less I just used what was on the tip.  I misted this lightly with water and laid my paper down again.  This time I didn't twist the paper, but pulled it straight up.  That's where those brighter splashes of color came from.  I LOVE creating backgrounds with the Distress Line!  The possibilities are endless!

Next, I just PILED on the die cuts and the embellishments.  There is NO WAY this card is going in an envelope...LOL!  My thought process went something like this...if one rose is good, two are better!  If two roses  are good, a clump of pinecones is better!  And so on, and so on.  Crazy, I know ;D

Anyway, this is the first of two cards I will be teaching.  If you're in or around the Albuquerque area on December 15th and feel like getting crafty, come join me!  Call Nancy at China Phoenix 2 at (505)884-8217 and she'll add your name to the roster.  I'll be back in a day or two to share the other card.  I have to make it first...LOL!  ;D

Until next time, stay crafty!

Challenge #156 at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps: Holidays!

Hey, all!  Welcome back  Did you have a wonderful Thanksgiving?  We certainly did!  Lots of family time, lots of laughter, and LOTS of good food!  What a day ;D

Today I'm back with a new challenge at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps and the ridiculously talented Elaine Hughes is our Hostess with the Mostest this week.  She's asking us to create a Christmas themed project, how perfect is that!  All of us have Christmas cards to make, so why not join this week's challenge in the process?

I'm using an adorable image from Cheryl Alger's set, Lexi's Winter Fun.  Isn't Lexi sweet as pie?  I just love her!  Check out those awesome crocheted flowers!  My sister made them for me as I was making this card.  Mom drove up from Las Cruces for Thanksgiving so we had a craftin' day at my house.  Mom and I made cards and I told Trissi she had to crochet me 15 flowers before she could leave.  Cruel, I know...LOL!  Anyway, I think she cranked out 6, which I gladly took, including the 2 I used on my card :)  I'm expecting a stocking full for Christmas...she better get started!  HAHA!

Anywho, create a holiday themed card and join this week's challenge.  You might be randomly selected to win the image Elaine used on her fabulous card!

One more thing...visit the Kraftin' Kimmie shop and check out all the sale stamps!  Lots of stuff is being retired so this might be your last chance to snatch up some of these fabulous images.  DON'T delay!

Okay, that's it for me!  Until next time, stay krafty!

As you look over the sketch and my card, it won't take you but a second to notice that something's not quite right.  Well, have I got a story for you.  Earlier in the week, I interviewed for a part-time seasonal gig at a wonderful local stamp store here in Albuquerque called the The Hen House Paperie.  Lo and behold, I got the job!  My first day was yesterday, but I also had a design team card due.  I got up in the morning and colored my images, cut them out, pulled some papers and then skipped off to my new job, happy that I'm going to be working around the very tools and supplies that bring me an immense amount of joy everyday.  I was also confident that I would be able to quickly assemble my DT card when I got home, even though I knew I would be really pushing the limits of that deadline.

The shop was abuzz with activity all day and I learned so much that my brain was overflowing with new information.  Many folks I knew popped in and it was fab seeing them and catching up.  I was enjoying myself SOOOO MUCH that, before I knew it, I had stayed an extra 45 minutes and had cut dangerously into my DT card time.  OOPS!  I jumped in my truck and zoomed home, still sure I could crank that card out within a reasonable time frame.

Once home, I mumbled a greeting to Kirk and told him I needed an hour before we could leave the house and grab a bite to eat somewhere.  I sat down at my desk and immediately engaged in a frenzy of cutting, glueing, glittering, sticking, and sniping!  Paper was flying!  If one of the cats ventured too close, they would be in danger of losing an eye!  I decided I didn't like the paper I had picked out earlier, so then I commenced to digging and clawing through stacks of scraps and sheets of papers.  EUREKA!  I found a glittery scrap that would do the job!  Then I decided it needed more pizzaz, so I started gluing anything and everything I could find to the front...more paper scraps, a piece of burlap, ribbon, a TH metal tag, a clump of cat fur!  KIDDING, but who knows!  I was crazed!  Once the glitter settled, I sat back and checked out my card.  Not too shabby!  It would do.

As all this was going on, the ticking of the clock was looming in the background, and each tick loudly thumped in my head.  TICK, TICK, TICK.  At the same time, hubby was in the living room, trying to be patient while his stomach grumbled it's hunger protest.  What a relief that I could finally load my card. As I'm putting it in the folder, my eyes start to pick up on a pattern among the DT cards already in there...OH, NO!!!  IT'S A SKETCH!  The challenge, the week of a release, is ALWAYS a sketch!  DUH!!!  You would think that after a year, I would start to remember this each month, but NO!  Anyway, that's why my card is a super loosey goosey, cross-eyed interpretation of the sketch.  Please forgive :)

Hey, all!  Welcome back!  This week's challenge at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps is brought to you by the uber fabulous Kerry Johnson and she is tasking us with using a Food or Drink Themed Image on our cards.  Sounds a bit tricky, doesn't it?  However, take a peek at all of the KKS images in the Kraftin' Kimmie Shop that center around food or drink and you will quickly see that it's really not a problem AT ALL...LOL!  In fact, you will have a tough time narrowing it down to just one ;D

After combing through all of my images a dozen times and changing my mind about 2 dozen times, I finally settled on Pippa Popcorn.  She's just so happy and that pretty much conveys how I feel about a big ol' tub of popcorn, myself.  I colored Pippa with Copics and gave her a fun little background treatment with some dots, and blues, and grays.  She was fun to color, but now I am really hankering for some movie popcorn!  Hmmm...maybe Kirk and I should go check out that new James Bond flick tonight ;D

BUT, I digress!  Join the challenge this week and you might be randomly selected to receive the wonderful image that Kerry used on her card!  Also, don't forget to check out the Frugal Friday Specials by clicking on the Deals, Deals, Deals section in the shop.  They are all winter themed and "must haves" for your stamping arsenal.

Catch ya next week with LOTS of new stuff!  Until then, stay krafty!

Challenge #153 at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps: Create Your Own Background

Hey, all!  Welcome back!  Time for a new challenge at Krafty Kimmie Stamps!  This time our fabulous hostess is the one and only Melanie Holtz.  Melanie has a good one for us...create a background using any technique.  Melanie drew her background by hand and it looks AMAZING!  I decided to go simple, so I swiped a couple of lighter tone Distress Ink pads across a white dies and misted it generously with water.  Let it dry and you have a simple background.

I used a new image on my card and he comes from the Snow Day Lucas set. While you're milling about the Kraftin' Kimmie Shop, be sure to check out the Frugal Friday Specials...6 fabulous designs at a deep, deep discount!  Also, the Gimmee Kimmee kits are on sale through Sunday, so NOW is the time to pick them up!

Alrighty, I'm going to keep this post short, until next time...stay krafty!

For my card, I took a little trip in the Way Back Machine and landed in the 1970's.  Specifically 1977 when a little film called Saturday Night Fever hit the theaters.  It starred some guy named John Travolta...maybe you've heard of him.  Back then Mr. Travolta was a strapping young Italian man with  Moves Like Jaguar; 2 years before Adam Levine was even a twinkle in his father's eye.  When I spied Disco Donna as part of the latest release, all I could think about was Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta in his white polyester suit and silk black shirt, and the glorious high pitched lyrics and dance inducing beats by the Bee Gees.  I was only 10 years old at the time, so it would be a few years before I was allowed to see this Rated R dance-fest with the adult themes, but the cassette tape (YES!  I said cassette tape...google it.  It's a real thing.) found it's way into my music collection immediately.  Donna Disco with her snazzy "You should be dancing" sentiment takes me back there and once again, I am 10 years old, popping the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack cassette into my little black tape player for the first time, and being entranced by the hypnotic beats of the disco era.  WHEW!  Thank you for that trip down memory lane :)

And one last thing!!! If you're starting your Christmas shopping early, one of our amazing artists,
Annie Rodrigue, is having a little sale in her Etsy shop!!! Use the code KRAFTYCOUPON now, to receive 15% off her prints, keychains, magnets, bookmarks AND she even has some original paintings in there!!! Buy for yourself or for a krafty friend!!
